At Polipo, we value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our unofficial web application designed to enhance access to the Politecnico di Torino's digital services.

2. Information We Collect

Polipo collects information necessary to provide our services and enable social features. We store data in two ways: on our servers and locally on your device.

Data stored on our servers:

  • User identification (user ID, name, surname)
  • Academic information (degree program, major, enrollment year)
  • Last login timestamp
  • Schedule customization preferences
  • Profile information (bio)
  • Social connections (followers and following lists)

Your Politecnico di Torino password is NEVER stored on our servers.

This information is used to provide the service functionality and enable social features.

Data stored on your device:

  • Cached data (course materials, grades, schedules)
  • User interface preferences

All cached data is stored temporarily to improve performance and reduce loading times. This data is stored only on your device and automatically expires after predefined periods (ranging from minutes to hours depending on the data type).

  • Authenticating your access to Politecnico di Torino's systems
  • Displaying your academic information in a more user-friendly format
  • Remembering your preferences for a better user experience
  • Enabling social features such as following other users
  • Displaying profile information to other users of the platform
  • Improving our application based on usage patterns (without identifying individual users)

4. Data Sharing and Visibility

Certain information may be visible to other Polipo users through our social features:

  • Your name, surname, degree, program, and enrollment year may be visible to other users
  • Any bio information you choose to add to your profile will be visible to other users

Polipo uses browser local storage and cookies to enhance your experience by remembering your preferences and temporarily storing cached data. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings, though this will reset your preferences within the application.
