Terms of Service

Please read our Terms of Service carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Polipo, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you should not use this service.

2. Service Description

Polipo is an unofficial web application designed to enhance access to the Politecnico di Torino's digital services. It provides a streamlined interface for students to view courses, assignments, grades, schedules, and other academic information. This service is not officially affiliated with Politecnico di Torino.

3. User Eligibility

Polipo is intended for use by only current students of Politecnico di Torino. You must have valid Politecnico di Torino credentials to access the service. Sharing access credentials or allowing unauthorized users to access the service is strictly prohibited.

4. Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security. We cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this security obligation.

5. Data Usage and Privacy

By using Polipo, you consent to the collection and use of your information as outlined in our Privacy Policy. We store minimal data necessary for the service to function properly, and all interactions with Politecnico di Torino systems are done through your own authenticated credentials.

5.1 Data We Store

Polipo stores data in two ways: locally on your device and securely on our servers.

Data stored on our servers:

  • User identification (user ID, name, surname)
  • Academic information (degree, program, enrollment year)
  • Last login timestamp
  • Schedule customization preferences
  • Profile information (bio)
  • Social connections (followers and following lists)

Important: Your Politecnico di Torino password is NEVER sent to or stored on our servers at any time. The authentication process happens directly between your device and the official Politecnico servers. Our application never intercepts, processes, or has access to your password.

After successful authentication, only secure tokens are used for subsequent requests. These tokens do not contain your password and can be revoked at any time. We do not store, process, or have access to your academic records, personal information, or communication content beyond what is temporarily cached on your own device.

Data stored locally on your device:

  • Authentication tokens (securely stored and automatically expire)
  • Cached data (course materials, grades, schedules, and other temporary data)
  • Temporary email session data
  • User interface preferences (theme, language, etc.)

All cached data is stored temporarily to improve performance and reduce loading times. This data is stored only on your device and automatically expires after predefined periods (ranging from minutes to hours depending on the data type).

5.2 Social Features and Profile Visibility

Polipo provides social features that allow users to connect with other students. By using these features, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

  • Other users can find your profile by entering your student ID number
  • Your profile information (name, surname, degree, program, enrollment year, and bio) may be visible to other users of the platform
  • Your followers and following lists may be visible to other users
  • Currently, there is no option to make your profile private or hidden from other users

By providing a bio or connecting with other users, you agree that this information may be visible to other Polipo users. Do not include sensitive or private information in your bio that you do not wish to share with other students.

6. Intellectual Property

All content included in Polipo, such as text, graphics, logos, and software, is the property of the developers or its content suppliers and protected by copyright laws. The compilation of all content on this site is the exclusive property of Polipo's developers and protected by copyright laws.

7. User Conduct

While using Polipo, you agree not to: (a) use the service for any unlawful purpose, (b) attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the service, (c) interfere with the proper working of the service, (d) bypass measures used to prevent or restrict access to the service, (e) use automated means to access the service, or (f) impersonate any person or entity.

8. Limitation of Liability

Polipo is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the operation of the service. We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the service.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to the service at our sole discretion, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms of Service or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties, or for any other reason.

10. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will provide notice of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this document. Continued use of the service after any modifications shall constitute your consent to such modifications.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Italy, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Turin, Italy.
